Storm Irwin continues to wreak havoc and more snow could fall – live

[ad_1]

The effects of Storm Irwin are being felt across the region today as fallen trees and power cables continue to wreak havoc.

This morning, some of our area’s major roads, including the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the M48 Severn Bridge, are still closed due to incredibly strong winds.

Not only that but power lines are still down in Ole and Gloucestershire and many fallen trees have blocked roads including the A419.

There is still a point failure at Yeovil Pen Mill in Somerset adding to the travel disruption.

Storm Irwin has already proven just how powerful it can be by partially demolishing an old industrial building in Bristol and tearing down the roof of some apartments in North Betterton, Somerset.

‘Blizzards’ have been reported in the Cotswolds where sudden blizzards have appeared. Chips were spotted in Bristol, Bath and Cheltenham as well.

All weather warnings for our area are now gone, but the Bureau of Meteorology has predicted there will be little chance of more snow.

In their forecast for today’s southwest, they reported: “Most areas see some sun at times, but some snow for some time over parts of Scotland and northwest England this morning and parts of the Midlands and southern England this afternoon.

“Winter showers in the east. Feeling cold.”
