Mario Kart 8: Deluxe was the #1 game in the UK last week, driven by deals around the Nintendo Switch console during Black Friday.

The Switch title, which has sold more than two million copies in the UK, jumped six places after a 567% jump in sales week by week. There was a Switch Black Friday console bundle featuring Mario Kart 8.

This means that last week No. 1, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, dropped five positions to No. 6 after a 57% drop in sales week after week. Its counterpart, Pokemon Shining Pearl, drops from No. 2 to No. 11 after sales plummeted 58%. If both games were combined, they would together be number three in the charts.

This chart only affects actual sales, and does not count digital download numbers.

As Black Friday weeks went by, it was relatively weak by physical game sales standards. Sales of UK boxed Black Friday games are down 10% compared to the same period in 2020, meaning 100,000 fewer boxed games were sold this year than last year.

The second biggest game on Black Friday was FIFA 22, which saw a 145% jump in sales, followed by Minecraft on Switch, which saw a 258% increase in sales.

Call of Duty: Vanguard ranks fourth, selling roughly the same number of games this week as it did last week.

The full graph is full of games benefiting from Black Friday deals. Guardians of the Galaxy rose 12 places to 5 after a 419% sales jump, Just Dance 2022 ranked 7th after a 133% increase, Animal Crossing: New Horizons ranked 8 thanks to a 94% sales increase and Far Cry 6 (No. 9 ) by 49%.

The other big new release last week (which wasn’t Pokémon) was Battlefield 2042, which dropped to #12 after a 58% sales drop. The big new release of the week was Farming Simulator 22, which debuted at number 13. The game sold best on PS4, which accounts for 37% of sales, followed by Xbox (34%), PS5 (14%) and then PC as well by 14%).

Metroid Dread, after threatening to crash out of the Top 40 last week, has rebounded to number 23 (sales up 190%). Meanwhile, recent releases have seen good weeks. Forza Horizon 5 dropped to No. 19 but sales actually went up 5% week after week Jurassic World: Evolution 2 dropped to No. 34 but sales were up 10% Mario Party Superstars went up 105% in sales and back into the top ten at number 10.
