Pep Guardiola judges Jack Grealish as Manchester City star misses four good chances at Watford

Pep Guardiola said the lack of a “specialist” scorer prevented his side from scoring at Watford – but he wasn’t about to criticize Jack Grealish.

The £100m summer buyout missed four good chances as Manchester City dominated the Hornets in the first half, having secured the ‘lying nine’ role as the Blues continue to make the most of a team without a real striker.

Grealish put his free-header straight into goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, and he hit very close to the stopper from Phil Foden’s starting point and missed two more chances as City swept all over the hosts.

Grealish has scored just two goals since his record-breaking British move from Aston Villa in the summer, when the Blues also failed to score for Harry Kane as Tottenham refused to talk about a potential deal.

When asked if he was happy that Grealish was in the right place to get the chances, or disappointed that he didn’t score any of them, Guardiola was philosophical: “Scoring goals is the hardest thing in football. We’re not specialists but we play really well.”

“The important thing is to create the chances we gave and these players with the quality we have will score one goal. What is important is the way we play.

“The results are a bit random but consistency is the most important thing. It helps us to be a stable team and that’s why we’ve won six or seven games in a row.”
