A yellow weather warning has been issued for the snow as Storm Bara approaches

A weather warning for ice was issued for all of Greater Manchester the night before Storm Barra arrived.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for large parts of the UK as temperatures are set to dip.

The warning, which covers the entire northwest, is in effect from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday.

“This evening’s rain, winter on higher ground, will gradually disappear overnight,” say meteorologists.

Wet surfaces are expected to drop below freezing very quickly under clear skies.

“It is very likely that the ice is where surfaces remain untreated, or where showers wash away the grit.”

Warning in place across Greater Manchester overnight

It could be chilly across the region as forecasters expect temperatures to drop as low as 2°C until 9am.

Its temperature is expected to rise slightly later on Tuesday, eventually reaching a high of 5 degrees Celsius by early evening.

Another yellow weather warning for winds was also issued for much of the UK on Tuesday.

The Met Office says travel disruption is “likely” in some areas.

Some bus and train services are likely to be affected, while short-term power loss is possible.

The arrival of Storm Barra could be particularly bad news for those still without energy after Storm Arwen.

More than 3,000 homes – most of them in the Northeast – were still powerless Sunday evening, nine days after the storm hit.

The Met Office says there is a chance of more power outages and a “little chance” that rural communities could be cut off.
