There is currently a weather warning for all of Northern Ireland with the arrival of Storm Barra.

The yellow warning for rain and wind is in effect from 6 a.m. on Tuesday and continues until 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

It is set to be humid and windy with strong winds blowing eastward on Tuesday morning. Heavy rain and snow are also expected on higher ground.

“The strong winds hitting across the west through Tuesday morning, will fan inland and reach eastern regions during the afternoon and early evening,” said Frank Saunders, the Met Office’s chief meteorologist.

“Winds of 45-50 mph are expected broadly, with 60 mph to 70 mph in exposed coastal locations. The strongest winds will soften across the interior overnight.”

A Met Office spokesperson added: “A deep area of low pressure moving from the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday, 7 December 2021, has been named Storm Barra by Met Éireann for the level of impacts expected for the Republic of Ireland.

“Storm Barra – the second storm named for the season – is a name chosen as part of the Name Our Storms collaboration with Irish meteorologists Met Éireann and Dutch forecasters KNMI.”
