Ghislaine Maxwell trial: Ex-boyfriend who indicted III confirms her account | Jesslyn Maxwell

The ex-boyfriend of the third defendant who is testifying in the Ghislaine Maxwell sex-trafficking trial in New York confirmed details of her account during his testimony on Wednesday.

This defendant, Caroline, testified on Tuesday that Maxwell had scheduled sexual massages with Jeffrey Epstein beginning when Caroline was 14, and that Maxwell had touched her. Caroline said she told Maxwell about being sexually abused as a child.

Caroline also said that she discussed this abuse with Epstein during a sexual massage with him. Caroline testified that Epstein’s abuse eventually came to include penetrative sex and group confrontations.

Prosecutors charge that Maxwell purchased teenage girls between 1994 and 2004 for Epstein, who sexually assaulted them. She is sometimes accused of being present and sometimes participating in these abuses.

Maxwell, 59, a British socialite and daughter of the late publishing giant Robert Maxwell, was arrested in July 2020 in New Hampshire, for her alleged involvement in the purchase of Epstein by young teenagers, some as young as 14. Maxwell, who is now on trial for six counts, has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Epstein, a convicted sex offender who counted Prince Andrew and former presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton among his acquaintances, killed himself in a New York City prison in August 2019, while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

Caroline said she ended up in Epstein’s orbit when then-boyfriend Sean introduced her to Virginia Joffrey, in the early 2000s. Geoffrey – an outspoken accuser of Epstein and Maxwell – asked Caroline if she wanted to make some money, and gave an older man she knew a massage.

Giuffre took Caroline to Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion. They saw Maxwell upon entering the kitchen, who allegedly told Joffrey to show Caroline what to do.

She said Geoffrey took Caroline upstairs, to the bathroom, set up the massage table, and stripped naked. Geoffer asked Caroline if she wanted to undress, but the kid said she wanted to stay in her underwear.

They massaged Epstein for 45 minutes. When they finished, Epstein flipped over.

She said Geoffer had sex with him while Caroline sat on the couch. Caroline said hundreds of dollars were left for them on the counter.

While leaving, Caroline gave Maxwell her phone number at the socialite’s request. Later, Maxwell called Caroline to schedule massages with Epstein, she said.

During his brief stint at the witness stand, Sean said Caroline had “only had two jobs at all” – one working at a fast food restaurant, the other working for Jeffrey.

“Virginia said she worked with a guy in Palm Beach and Caroline could make money if she wanted to come in for a massage,” Shawn remembers the time he, Caroline, Joffrey, and her then-boyfriend were hanging out.

Ex-boyfriends Caroline and Sean drove her to Epstein’s house a few weeks later. Joffrey and Caroline walked in and came back about an hour later.

When they came out, he said, they had “one hundred dollar bills.” Sean said he drove Caroline to Epstein’s house every few weeks.

He said she was coming in and out “a little more than an hour later,” with banknotes in her hands. Sean also said that Caroline only called Maxwell by her last name.

“You couldn’t pronounce it,” he said of Maxwell’s first name, Ghislaine. She had no ability to read… [or] It was strange to her.”

When asked to describe her intellectual and educational level, Sean replied, “She was a child.”

Maxwell doesn’t seem to have much, if any, reaction to Sean’s testimony. Throughout the morning procedures, she was browsing through papers and taking notes. She was more lively, it seemed, before the procedures. Her brother, Kevin, moved onto the front row seats to talk to his sister across the bulkhead.

They spoke French for a few moments. Later, Maxwell’s sister Isabel separately approached her brother, and they also spoke French.
