Brighton confirms the outbreak of Covid-19 before the Manchester United match

Brighton has confirmed the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, which has cast doubt on its Premier League match against Manchester United.

With question marks remaining over the Brentford game – scheduled for Tuesday night at 7.30pm – there are additional concerns for the Old Trafford giants ahead of their next game.

After heading to West London as part of a full midweek schedule, United were due to welcome Brighton into town at lunchtime on Saturday 18th December (12:30pm).

However, with the devastating pandemic continuing to grip the sporting program – and the wider community – that means United, in a worst-case scenario, will not be back in action until December 27 against Newcastle.

Brighton will play the Wolverhampton match on Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm.

Similar to United, they are waiting for more tests and other similar protocols from the Premier League.

Graham Potter confirmed the outbreak during his pre-match press conference for the Wolverhampton game – after his team’s last game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon was called off due to similar concerns at the Spurs camp.

“We have a mix, infection and Covid,” Potter said.

“We’re about three or four and that’s something we have to deal with. We’re just checking to make sure it’s at that number. We haven’t talked about it [postponement]. We are trying to monitor and make sure that we are not playing games with people who have Covid.

“We have to keep monitoring, testing and making sure we can keep the number as low as possible.

“We are all in the same situation. First and foremost, the health and safety of the players and everyone around us. We are doing everything we can to make sure this is done correctly.”
