A spacecraft has just touched the sun for the first time in human history.
The Parker Solar Probe flew through the sun’s atmosphere, known as the sun’s corona, collecting particles and measuring the sun’s magnetic field, according to NASA.
“The Parker Touching the Sun Solar Probe is a defining moment for solar science and a truly remarkable achievement,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate director of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
“Not only does this achievement provide us with deeper insights into the evolution of our sun and its effects on our solar system, but everything we learn about our star also teaches us more about stars in the rest of the universe.”
