The Welsh government is cracking down on people trying to evade getting a Covid vaccine or taking a lateral flow test before heading to events like rugby.
The Welsh Minister of Health has said that people who say they are exempt will no longer be able to attend major events.
According to Eluned Morgan, there are between 300 and 500 people across Wales who are not legally able to get vaccinated or have a collateral flow test.
For everyone else, they must be prepared to make one of two choices if they wish to obtain a Covid permit. In Wales, passes are required to enter nightclubs, cinemas, theatres, concert halls and outdoor events without seating for more than 4,000 people or any event with more than 10,000 people.

Ms Morgan told Plinieri on Tuesday afternoon that “a great deal of work” has been done to look at the number of people who cannot legally be vaccinated. “We analyzed the number of people who could not be vaccinated and could not have the lateral flow test. We think only 100 to 500 people are in this condition,” she said.
She added that a lot of basic work had been done to make sure that exempt people could get a Covid permit but that they still needed to get the systems to “talk to each other”. Progress has been slowed to allow officials to focus on the vaccination process but these individuals are now well known.
Ms Morgan added: “So when people go to rugby and say, ‘I’m an exception’ – they won’t be able to do that anymore, because it will all be written into the Covid card. It will clearly indicate – if you are an exception, it will show up automatically.”
She urged people in this situation to contact their doctor so that their details could be entered into the system.
The UK government confirmed today that Covid cards will not be dependent on vaccination alone. Their confirmation came after Sajid Javid told the House of Commons that a negative lateral flow test would always be able to be used to get a Covid pass. Asked if the idea of passports restricted to vaccines had now been abandoned, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson said: “Yes, that’s what I understand, we think that’s the right balance.”

Ms Morgan took the opportunity on Tuesday to highlight how Wales’ approach to introducing booster vaccination was different from England’s.
“We will not have visits as they see in England,” she said. “It’s not going to be free for everyone here. We’ll go in order…. We don’t want to see people shivering outside in the middle of winter like they do in England. What happens there is the survival of the fittest. Those people who are fit and who can queue outside can Reach for reinforcement. Therefore, we have to work by protecting the most vulnerable. We will not apologize for that.”
She added that Wales was adopting a system where people were arrested according to their age and how vulnerable they were.
She continued, “I know people are uncomfortable with that, but that’s what we decided to do. We’re following the directions we received from the JCVI. So, there will be visits, but they will walk – specific groups – to clinical groups at risk, for example. They will receive a message. : “Today is your entry day.” Or those 55-59-year-olds — that group will find out what day they can go.”
