The man died in hospital a few days after the accident and it was Paige’s mother Claire who said her daughter was in Liverpool to visit her boyfriend – an Audi driver – where she hailed the “beautiful girl”.

Their car collided with a taxi, seriously injuring the driver, a man in his forties, and Merseyside Police confirmed that the injured taxi driver is not under any criminal investigation.

On November 17, Paige Rice’s family and friends said their last goodbyes at a funeral held at the Woodlands Crematorium in Birmingham.

The nail technician from West Midlands was 23 years old the day before she was buried.

In the aftermath of the crash, Inspector Mark Worrell said: “I would like to ask anyone who saw anything prior to the impact that could help our inquiries contact.

“It is believed that prior to entering the tunnel, an Audi had collided with another vehicle on the Hunter Street roundabout. We are currently checking a number of inquiry lines.”

Since then, an online fundraising campaign set up to support the Paige family has raised more than £32,000, including a £5,000 donation from Manchester City and England footballer Jack Grealish.
