Police have confirmed the death of a Manchester man in a tunnel crash with his girlfriend.

The attack in the Queensway Tunnel between Liverpool and Birkenhead in the early hours of Sunday, October 17, claimed the life of 22-year-old Paige Rice and her partner.

Merseyside police have now confirmed that their partner was a 27-year-old from Manchester, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Her mother Claire said Page, who is described as a “beautiful girl”, was in Liverpool visiting him.

Their car collided with a taxi, seriously injuring the driver, a man in his forties, and police confirmed that the injured taxi driver is not the subject of any criminal investigations.

On November 17, family and friends of Paige, from Birmingham, said their last farewells at a funeral held at the Woodlands crematorium.

The nail technician was 23 years old the day before she was buried.

In the aftermath of the crash, Inspector Mark Worrell said: “I would like to ask anyone who saw anything prior to the impact that could help our inquiries contact.

“It is believed that prior to entering the tunnel, an Audi had collided with another vehicle on the Hunter Street roundabout. We are currently checking a number of inquiry lines.”

Since then, an online fundraising campaign set up to support the Paige family has raised more than £32,000, including a £5,000 donation from Manchester City and England footballer Jack Grealish.

Investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
