Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has had his say on Arsenal’s decision to sack Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as his captain.
Arsenal announced, on Tuesday, that the Gabon international will not be captain after being left out of the squad for the tour in their 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday for disciplinary reasons.
Aubameyang will also miss Wednesday night’s game against West Ham United, a decision Tuchel admitted he was sad to see ahead of the Blues’ game with Everton on Thursday night.
When asked in his pre-match press conference if he would reach out to him, Tuchel said: “I will at some point, but I don’t want to bother me either. I think he was a very important player for me, we are a very close relationship, even today.”

“When we meet, it’s always still very nice and I can only say the best things about Oba as a player and as a person.
“I feel sorry for him because he is in trouble. This is not where he should be with his kind and positive personality.
“And I still believe in that. But I’m not involved, I’m not involved in what’s going on in his club right now, which is why I also want to show my respect and not get involved and judge what’s right and what’s wrong.
“I only have my picture, my relationship with Oppa, and that’s not affected by that.”
Tuchel did not hide his admiration for Aubameyang, who trained him for two years at Borussia Dortmund in the German League.
“Going back to the Dortmund days, it was a pleasure to be in the team,” Tuchel said back in May this year.
“Oba was a great striker, he was a great scorer on the field. But, more than that, he was a great factor off the field.
“I think he hasn’t missed a single practice in two years. He might have arrived five minutes late on the training ground, and that could happen to him! But if he does, he’s in such a hurry, he’s sorry, and there’s still a smile on his face.”
“It was a very reliable relationship because he scored an incredible number of goals, his speed was unique in the Bundesliga and he was an important player. A bit of a crazy guy, but he’s a nice crazy.”
