Leicester vs Tottenham: Premier League match postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak | football news

Tottenham’s Premier League match against Leicester on Thursday has been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Sky Sports News reported.

This is the third time in a row that Tottenham have been postponed, after the Europa League match against Rennes, and the Premier League match against Brighton last weekend was also canceled due to Covid.

Those postponements came after eight players and five members of the North London club’s coaching staff tested positive for Covid-19.

Two weeks ago, the Premier League with Tottenham was also postponed due to bad weather.

Leicester are also dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, with manager Brendan Rodgers saying on Wednesday he was “disappointed” that the Premier League had rejected a request from the Foxes to postpone the match.

The postponement comes hours after Brentford boss Thomas Frank called the Premier League to suspend this weekend’s round of matches, as several top clubs struggle to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

Brendan Rodgers said he was disappointed that the Premier League rejected their request to postpone the match against Tottenham Hotspur due to the absence of nine players.

Manchester United’s trip to Brentford on Tuesday and Watford’s visit to Burnley are the other Premier League matches that have been canceled so far this week.

Chelsea are scheduled to face Everton on Thursday evening, while Liverpool are preparing to host Newcastle in the remaining two matches in this round of Premier League matches.

Rodgers said in his pre-match press conference that his team had “high doubt” entering the field for the 4-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday, and that he was without nine first-team players through a combination of Covid and illness in the Tottenham game.

Tottenham coach Antonio Conte has confirmed that some players are back in training after the isolation, but they must be patient while they build their fitness.

Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte said on Wednesday that Tottenham had asked for the match to be postponed to allow them to play the Europa League match against Rennes that they were forced to postpone last week.
