Ben Affleck has now denied blaming his ex-wife Jennifer Garner for his alcohol addiction, insisting his words were taken out of context.

The A-list star tried to clarify comments he made to radio host Howard Stern that he’d still be drinking if he didn’t break up with Jennifer during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel last night.

He told the chat show host Jimmy that interpreting his original comments “hurts my feelings” and assured the audience that he would never offend his ex.

“I continued [the show], said how much we respected each other, cared about each other, cared about our children, and put them first,” Ben said.

“He said I blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism, and that I was so caught up in this marriage that I was the worst, stupidest, and most horrible man ever.

“It hurts my feelings.”

In his shocking interview with Jock Stern, Ben lifted the lid on his time with Jennifer Garner, claiming that he turned to alcohol because he felt “trapped” in their relationship.

Jane, 49, had previously spoken of her desire to make their marriage work, telling Vanity Fair: “It was a real one.

“It wasn’t for the cameras. Staying in it was a huge priority for me.”

But speaking of his battle with alcoholism in his own interview, the two-time Academy Award winner, Ben, said he would drink until he fell asleep to adjust to life at home.

Talking about his separation from Jennifer, with whom he has two daughters Violet, 16, and Seraphina, 12, and a nine-year-old son Samuel, he began: “The truth is that we took our time, made the decision. We parted.

“We had a marriage that didn’t work out.

We tried because we have kids. We didn’t want him to be a marriage model for the kids.

“We did our best. I knew she was a good mom, and I hoped she knew I was a good dad.”

“I had to be sober, I admit.”

However, he went on to criticize him in a brutal way at Jennifer by saying that if they were still married: “We would probably be right in each other’s throats.

“Maybe I still drink. Part of the reason I started drinking alcohol is because I felt trapped.”

Ben made no secret of his problems with alcohol and received treatment for alcoholism in 2001 and 2017.

Touchingly, in August 2017 after their split, Jennifer was seen driving him to a treatment facility to help him on his journey to recovery.

Ben previously admitted that he started drinking more in 2015 and 2016, saying he stayed in marriage for some time because of their children.

“I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?'” he told Stern. “

“And what I did was I drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the answer.

“But we both felt like we didn’t want that to be the model our children would see in marriage.”

Ben and Jennifer became friends after meeting on the set of the movie Pearl Harbor in 2000.

At the time, Jennifer was married to actor Scott Foley, 49, while Ben had just started dating pop star Jennifer Lopez, 52.

I can’t leave my kids but I’m not happy, what should I do? What I did was drink a bottle of scotch.

They met again two years later on the set of the superhero movie Daredevil, in which they both starred.

While they were in relationships, Ben later claimed that they “fell in love” there.

A year later, Jennifer broke up with Scott, and Ben and Ji Lo – who started dating again this year – called off their engagement in January 2004.

Nine months later, in October of that year, Ben and Jennifer went on their first public date before they were married on a private Turks and Caicos Island, with only two guests, in June 2005.

Fast forward a decade and their split sent shock waves through Hollywood, with the announcement of their separation just a day after their 10th wedding anniversary.

A joint statement issued by the couple at the time read: “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce.

“We move forward with love and friendship for each other and a commitment to shared parenting for our children, whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”

Rumors swirled about Bean’s friendship with the couple’s nanny, Christine Ozonian, 34.

However, he and Jennifer vehemently denied that anyone else was involved in their breakup.

In February 2016, Jennifer opened up about her decision to walk away from their marriage, but has been steadfast in her devotion to Ben.

She told Vanity Fair, “I didn’t marry the big movie star, I married him.

I will come back and re-make that decision. I ran toward the beach, and I’ll do it again.”

She added, “He’s the love of my life. What am I going to do about it?”

“He’s the smartest, most attractive, most generous person in any room.

“He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When the sun shines on you you feel it.'”

“But when the sun is shining somewhere else, it is cold. It can cast a shadow over that.”

Speaking on US radio show The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday, Ben said that after their decision to separate, life became easier – although it did not come without challenges.

He said: We did it amicably. We did our best.

Did we have tense moments? Do we have custody disputes? Were things difficult for us? Did we get angry?

“Yes, but basically it was always backed by respect.”

Ben, now sober, added: “The cure for addiction is suffering, you suffer enough because something inside of you goes, ‘I’m done.'”

“I am fortunate to have gotten to that point before I lose sight of the most important things.

“It’s not my career or my money – it was my relationship with my kids.”

Ben also talked about his renewed relationship with J-Lo during the interview.

He said the couple had previously separated due to public scrutiny.

He added that the consequences affected him severely.

He explained, “I was hurt and angry and felt like an idiot… the idea that people hate you and hate you together and being together is poison, ugly and toxic and is something none of us want to be a part of.

And who wants to eat them for dinner?

“And what do they do together?”

Ben went on to say he thought twice about reviving their romance after two decades because of what came before – and the impact it might have on their children.

He added, “My responsibility to my children is my highest responsibility.

“So I wouldn’t do anything painful or destructive to them if I could help it.”
