The Prime Minister is embroiled in a new crisis tonight after he allegedly attended a party with Number 10 staff during the first national lockdown.

The Prime Minister is accused of attending a pizza party in May last year – as the rest of the UK was under tight lockdown.

The Guardian and The Independent reported tonight that Boris Johnson was present for 15 minutes at the gathering which is said to have taken place on May 15, 2020, following a Covid press conference.

Newspapers say the alleged event took place on the same day Matt Hancock, then the health secretary, urged people to “please stick to the rules”.

At the time the party was said to have taken place, the people were only allowed to meet another person from outside their home in a public outdoor space, and were told to keep a distance of two meters from each other.

According to reports, sources claimed that about 20 employees attended, drank alcohol and ate pizza.

Some were said to have gathered in offices inside No. 10 and others in the park. The drinking allegedly continued into the late evening.

The prime minister reportedly told an attendee that they deserved a drink “to fend off the virus”.

Hannah Brady, a Covid-19 spokeswoman for Bereaved Families for Justice whose father died of the virus the day after the alleged event, said the reports had made her sick.

She said she met the prime minister a few months later, when she showed him a picture of her father in hospital, taken on the day of the reported rally.

“The prime minister looked me in the eye and told me he ‘did everything he could’ to protect my father. She said.

The newspapers said that when asked about Mr Johnson’s “beating” comment and his presence at the alleged party where employees were said to have been drinking and socializing, a No 10 spokesperson told them: “In the summer months, Downing Street employees regularly use the park for some meetings.

On May 15, 2020, the Prime Minister held a series of meetings throughout the afternoon, including briefly with the then Minister of Health and Welfare and his team in the garden following a press conference.

The Prime Minister went to his residence shortly after seven in the evening. The few staff required to work in Downing Street Park remained for part of the afternoon and evening.”
