The father of slain young boy Star Hobson said he would “never recover from the cruel and cruel way” in which he killed his daughter.

In a statement issued on his behalf, Jordan Hobson said: “The horrific death of my beautiful infant daughter has devastated me and I will never recover from the cruel and cruel way a star was taken from me.

“No judgment that a court can impose will ever bring back my dear daughter.

“I’m now asking for privacy so I can start grieving and start trying to pick up parts of my life.”

Hobson, a college student, breaks up with Starr before her “toxic” relationship with Savannah Brockhill begins.

Hobson died in September last year of “absolutely catastrophic” injuries she received at her home in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

Brockhill, a former guard, was sentenced to at least 25 years in prison, while Starr’s mother, Frankie Smith, was sentenced to eight years after being convicted of causing or allowing her daughter’s death.

After the lengthy trial ended, Prime Minister Boris Johnson described Starr’s death as “horrific and heartbreaking”, adding: “We must protect children from these barbaric crimes and ensure the lessons are learned.”

Judging Brockhill and Smith, Judge Lambert told them: “She was 16 months old when she was murdered. Her short life was marked by neglect, cruelty and injury.

“I was murdered by you, Savannah Brockhill. Frankie Smith, it was your turn, as her mother, to protect Starr from harm.

“This jury has found you guilty of failing to protect her, thus allowing her to kill.”

The attorney general’s office has now confirmed that it has received a request to consider Smith’s sentence under the Unjustified Reduced Sentencing System (ULS).

Starr’s death caused national outrage, as the case came shortly after the murder of six-year-old Solihull, Arthur Labingo Hughes.

As with Arthur, Starr’s death led to widespread questioning of the role of social workers and police in her life after it emerged that friends and family had reported their concerns on five separate occasions in the eight months leading up to her death.

Speaking in court on Wednesday, Hobson’s father, Bernard, told Mrs. Justice Lambert how his son could not make a statement himself, but said he was “sad and troubled because of his infant daughter suffering in her young life and her tragic death. It didn’t need to happen.”
