Rock star Rod Stewart and his son have pleaded guilty to assault following a New Year’s Eve incident with a security guard at an exclusive Florida hotel.
Court records released on Friday showed that the singer and his son, Sean Stewart, had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of petty battery.
“No one was injured in the incident and the jury did not find Sir Rod Stewart guilty of this accusation,” his lawyer said in a statement.
“Instead, Sir Rod Stewart has decided to petition to avoid the inconvenience and undue burden on the Court and the public which a high-level action might cause.”
The plea agreement, dated and signed Monday, December 13, means Stewart, 76, and his son, 41, will not have to appear in court and the formal verdict in the charge has been withheld.
There will be no trial.
Neither of them will serve any time in prison or be required to pay fines nor will they be placed on probation.
The Stewarts were accused of having a physical altercation with security guard Jesse Dixon at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach on December 31, 2019.
The dispute included Dixon’s refusal to allow them to attend a New Year’s Eve party at the hotel.
He said in court papers that Rod Stewart punched him in the rib cage with a closed fist and that Sean Stewart pushed him.
A spokesperson for the Palm Beach state attorney, whose office brought the case, said in an email that Dixon agreed with the outcome of the case.
