The father of two sets of twin boys who died in a house fire after being left alone at home in south London has spoken of the “devastating” effect the accident had on his family.

Dalton Huth described the children, whom family members named four-year-old Kayson and Bryson, and three-year-old Leighton and Logan, as “intelligent, affectionate, loving boys.”

It came as a 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect after a fire destroyed a mid-porch house in Collingwood Street, Sutton just before 7pm on Thursday.

“They were intelligent, caring, lovable boys, but most of all sons, brothers, great-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and cousins.

“We would like to thank all the emergency services who have done so much to try to save our boys, as well as the local community who have come together at this difficult time.

“I would like to ask my family to give time to grieve in private.

“They will forever be in my heart and in my thoughts, I love my Father.”

Chief Superintendent Dave Stringer, District Commander for Croydon, Bromley and Sutton Police, confirmed the children are linked.

“There was no one else inside the property at the time of the fire,” he told reporters at the scene on Friday afternoon.

He said the metro and the London Fire Brigade were investigating the cause of the fire.

The police chief said the woman, who was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of neglecting her child, is still in police custody.

In a Facebook post, Jason Huth wrote: “I am stunned to say that the horrific house fire that occurred in Sutton last night resulting in four children (sic) losing their lives (sic) were my amazing, smart and beautiful grandchildren.

“(They were taken) very soon they will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

“Boys love you forever. Grandad xxx”
