Lady Mary Berry was attacked by bed bugs after the BBC placed her in budget housing.
Ex-star Sue Perkins revealed the 86-year-old TV judge was exposed to the creatures after being booked into a £25-a-night youth hostel while filming early Bake Off episodes.

Former star Sue Perkins said the TV judge, 86, was booked into a £25 a night youth hostel.
“Bake Off can now only be seen from the perspective of massive success,” said Comic Sue, 52, who co-hosted the hit show with comedian partner Mel Giedroyc, 53, from 2010 to 2016, when it moved to Channel 4:
“But we’ve been there since its inception, when Barry’s Burger catering carts were at home, when we were in a youth hostel at £25 a night – and Mary Berry had bed bugs.
“We were a traveling show and the team had to pitch the tent.”
She recalls complaining about the long days: “We used to spend 16 or 17 hours a day interviewing people in the tent who were Anglo-Saxon experts about why rabbits’ feet were put in a sponge in the 12th century.
But it has dramatically evolved from the intense documentary about food into the much-loved program it is now.
“We had a makeup artist paint a raspberry and magenta lipstick in one series.
“I looked like I had been dragged from a river bank, I looked like a corpse spotted on a corpse.”
Sue added in the Full Disclosure podcast: “Bake Off started making people cry.
This is our only contribution and it seems to be a very minor one, but if it has an impact I am very happy with it.”
