Touching wood, but on a chaotic weekend of Premier League matches, Manchester City’s trip to Newcastle United is still ready as planned.
As it stands, only four of the usual 10 matches have survived the new surge of Covid-19 cases that has affected many clubs and left them without enough players to complete their matches.
City had their own consternation on Friday after they were forced to cancel Pep Guardiola’s press conference where he returned an inconclusive lateral flow test, but another PCR test luckily came back negative.
The Blues boss later revealed that, apart from long-term absentee Ferran Torres, he has a perfectly fit squad for the match against Newcastle. However, that should be taken with a pinch of salt as he said the same thing before Leeds United’s 7-0 defeat but missed Kyle Walker in the match.
