Health and Welfare Minister Sajid Javid said the government was doing everything it could to “get blows in the arms”.
“We are in a race between the virus and the vaccine and we are doing everything we can to get punches in arms as quickly as possible,” he said.
“We are calling on people for support now as part of our national mission to strengthen our wall of defense against the rapid spread of Omicron.
“I would like to thank the thousands of people who have heroically come forward to support our vaccine campaign. We are all in this together – please play your part.”
Business Minister Kwasi Quarting urged the public to roll up their sleeves to help businesses over Christmas.
Writing in the Sunday Express, he said: “The more people who are stabbed, the more protection we have.
“The higher the protection, the faster Covid-19 will be overcome.
“The faster we beat the virus, the faster our economy will recover, and companies can get back to doing what they are doing better.
“Give the best gift you can get this Christmas, and get support now.”
It comes as NHS England set records in consolidation, with 740,775 on Friday and 739,867 on Thursday.
