Tighter restrictions may be imposed across England soon in an effort to tackle the omicron variant.
London declared a “major incident” yesterday, with the mayor of the capital, Sadiq Khan, describing the rapid rise in cases as “extremely worrying”.
There has also been widespread speculation that the nation will go into a circuit-breaker shutdown just after Christmas, with new restrictions in place to help address the alternative.
Speaking to ITV’s Lauren, Dr. Amir Khan said doctors from South Africa – the country where the variant was first discovered – have found patients to experience night sweats while they sleep, Wells Online reports.
Night sweats is another term for excessive sweating. When you sweat a lot, your night clothes and bedding are left wet, even when you sleep in a cool room.
The main symptoms of coronavirus are a high temperature, a new and persistent cough, as well as a loss or alteration of the sense of smell or taste. However, according to doctors, patients detected using the Omicron variant said they experienced body aches, aches, fatigue, fever, and a dry cough.
They also added that these effects are milder among those vaccinated.

Dr Khan explained: “Symptoms emerging from South Africa by clinicians caring for Omicron patients show these five new symptoms.
“Itchy throat, mild muscle aches, extreme fatigue, dry cough and night sweats. This is the kind of sunken night sweats where you may have to get up and change your clothes.
“And that’s important. It’s important that we stay on top of these symptoms, because if we’re going to track Omicron here and around the world, we need to be able to test people with these symptoms.”
