Merseyside police have confirmed that two street-by-street murder investigations were opened within an hour.

The murders, which are unrelated and are not treated by the police as related in any way, took place within half a mile of each other.

First, police were called to Feltwood Close in the West Derby at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 19.

Officers were called to an apartment where the body of a man in his forties was found.

Two men aged between 30 and 26 and a 20-year-old woman from Liverpool have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A few streets from Princess Drive, officers were called around 6.30am that same day to report that a man had been stabbed in the chest.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he died.

The locations of the two murders are only 10 minutes’ walk from each other – but there is no indication that the cases are connected in any way.

Speaking to the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) last night, a force spokeswoman said that the officers investigating the two incidents confirmed that they are not related.

Forensic officers working at the murder investigation site on Princess Drive were seen coming and going from a property on Sunday as they searched for clues.

Roads on both Princess Drive and Aspes Road were closed while forensic examinations and house-to-house investigations were conducted.

Pictures taken at the scene showed a police cordon outside the entrance to a row of homes and a silver car inside the cordon.

People described the victim as “the lovable boy” in expressions of appreciation he posted on social media.

Others described their shock and grief at the news, which one woman described as “disgusting”.

At the scene of the apartment murders in Feltwood Close, an officer was seen guarding the entrance to a block of apartments while an undercover officers’ car pulled up outside.
