Covid booster vaccines broke a daily record in the UK, with more than 830,000 vaccines distributed

More than 830,000 booster strokes were delivered in England on Tuesday – the highest daily number on record.

906,656 shots including the first and second doses were given on ‘Big Saturday’ in England, as vaccination centers opened in sports stadiums, Christmas markets and shopping centres.

Over the past week, more than 4.2 million booster hits have been delivered — over 2.4 million in the previous week.

Health Minister Sajid Javid praised Saturday’s record.

He tweeted: “906,656 strikes were delivered in England yesterday – including over 830,000 boosters.

“It’s great to see so many coming forward to #GetBoostedNow, to secure vital protection for themselves and their loved ones.”

Dr Emily Lawson, head of the NHS immunization program, urged people to keep the enthusiasm and get their hands on it.

She said: “With the highest number of boosters and vaccines ever recorded on Good Saturday, and the NHS Covid vaccination program providing a string of records already this week, millions of people are being protected from the virus.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to the NHS staff and volunteers who are working so hard to vaccinate people in the lead-up to Christmas and it is great to see that their efforts have aligned with the public’s desire for protection.

“From large centers to small community pharmacies, the entire country is coming together to attract everyone.

“And with Omicron spreading rapidly, it is critical that we maintain that enthusiasm – and as long as people keep coming forward, the NHS will be there to get them vaccinated – so the message of the NHS is clear, book your supporter today to ensure your vitality and a life-saving hit.”
