Pep Guardiola warns Man City duo Phil Foden and Jack Grealish after beating Newcastle

PEP GUARDIOLA has warned Jack Grealish and Phil Foden about their off-court behavior – after being turned away from the trip to Newcastle.

It is understood that the Manchester City boss was unhappy with the case in which the English duo reported training after a night out on Tuesday following their 7-0 win against Leeds.

Both were not used to Sunday’s 4-0 win – despite their brilliance during the 7-0 game against Leeds on December 14.

Grealish and Foden are known to have gone out together on Tuesday night after the win.

Guardiola and the club are reportedly unhappy with the condition they were in when they took part in Wednesday’s recovery session.

The City chief has repeatedly told his stars to be extra careful during the festive period due to the risks of Covid.

When asked why he made changes against Toon, President Pep said: “It wasn’t a rotation, no. I decided to join this team because they deserved to play – these guys, not the others.

“At Christmas, I pay a lot of attention to the behavior on and off the field. And when it’s not appropriate off the field, they won’t play.

“We have to be focused all the time because of the Christmas distractions and everything that happens. You have to stay focused.”

Guardiola didn’t name the English duo directly – but they were two of the three changes he made to Tyneside.

The other was defender John Stones, who played right-back against Leeds but made way for the returning Joao Cancelo.

There is no indication that Stones went out with his Three Lions teammates.

Guardiola missed training on Wednesday as he headed to Barcelona to be with former striker Sergio Aguero, where he announced his retirement.

He left his coaching staff in charge and the players who played against Leeds were due to take part in a warm-up period. Grealish is not believed to have participated in that session.

Guardiola himself suffered a Covid scare on Friday when he returned an inconclusive test – before he finally got everything to come back.
