Kate Garraway’s husband was seen abroad for the first time since he contracted Covid as the TV presenter spoke about the family’s “bumpy 24 hours”.

The GMP star, 54, was photographed with Derek Draper on a trip to see Cinderella at the Richmond Theater in West London, last Wednesday.

The trip with the couple’s sons Darcy, 15, and son Billy, 12, was the first since Draper contracted Covid in 2020.

Bantu star Anton du Beek, who was Garraway’s partner when she participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2007.

But the TV presenter revealed yesterday on her social media that her husband was almost enjoying Christmas in the hospital after what she described as the “horror”.

Along with a photo of Darcy and Bailey, with their father, Garraway wrote in her letter: “So the last 24 hours have been bumpy – a fear that means Derek may have had to go back to the hospital (fortunately sorted out by a visit from the nurse/caregiver). ), he also had one of those days of extreme exhaustion, so he was too weak to do much other than sleep.

Draper spent last December in the hospital and was seriously ill after contracting the coronavirus, a journey that TV presenter Garaway spoke openly about in the documentary Finding Derek earlier this year.

Before Christmas, Garraway described being able to spend Christmas Eve with her husband for the first time since he was seriously ill as her “biggest gift”.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on December 24, she said there was still “a long, long way to go” in his recovery, but added that she was grateful to have him home on such a festive period.

“He obviously continues to have unusual communication problems, very limited mobility, and major issues with fatigue,” she told viewers, providing an update on his health.

However, as she contemplated him coming home, she said, “Last Christmas Eve, we had a lot of hope and a lot of hope. But Derek was in the hospital.”

“We had no idea if he would live or die, and we pray that things will go in the right direction.
