The British Metropolitan Police said a 15-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in Croydon, south London, on Thursday has been identified as Xian Imable Lina.
Police said Xian is from the local area.
A 15-year-old boy, who had been arrested on suspicion of murder, was released on bail as of late January.
Zayan’s death was the 29th teen murder in London in 2021, surpassing the 27 teen murders seen in 2017, which was the highest in recent years.
The previous peak was 29 teenage murders in the capital in 2008.
However, within minutes of Xian’s death, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death at Philpots Farm Open Space in Yoseley, Hillingdon, west London, making it the capital’s capital’s 30 teenage murder in 2021.
Met Police Chief Alex Murray said: “I am deeply saddened by every murder this year, and deeply concerned by those that have been teenage murders. Each one is a tragedy leaving behind broken families and shattered communities.”
My thoughts are with the victims and all affected. They are not statistics, not just numbers, they all have families, and they all should have lived their lives ahead of them.
“They and their families robbed something valuable and we all have to do everything we can to stop this,” he said.
He added that police were devoting “huge resources” to preventing murders, and said the park was not “satisfied” with knife crime.
Chief Inspector Richard Leonard said: “My thoughts remain with the Zayan family and friends as they come to terms with this tragic loss. My team continues to work around the clock so we can give the Zayan family the answers they deserve.
Zayani’s death has shocked the local community and London as a whole. He was only 15 years old and his whole life was ahead of him, and we want the community to work with us to bring those responsible to justice.”
In a tweet on Twitter, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was “shocked” by the boys’ deaths and was in close contact with the Metropolitan “who are doing their best to bring those responsible to justice”.
He said the safety of Londoners would “always remain my top priority” and he was “investing record sums in policing to put more officers on the streets and create positive opportunities for nearly 100,000 young Londoners, helping to keep them away from violence”.
He added, “I refuse to accept that the loss of young people’s lives is inevitable, and I will continue relentlessly to take the bold actions necessary to put an end to the violence in our city.”
