New photos of the Duchess of Cambridge celebrating her 40th birthday were released on Sunday.
The photographs, taken by Paolo Roversi at Kew Gardens in west London last November, will become part of the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery once it reopens.
They show Kate in relaxed poses, wearing different Alexander McQueen dresses.

In one, wearing a red dress, she completed the outfit with a pair of Queen’s earrings lent to her by Her Majesty.
In another photo, she is seen wearing a pair of earrings that belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales – her late mother-in-law.
‘Happened by her warmth’
Roversi said filming the duchess was a “moment of pure joy” and said her “positive energy” could “bring hope to the whole world”.

He added, “I was touched by her warmth, her friendly welcome, and her charm, with her bright eyes that reflected the beauty of her soul, and her smile, which indicated the generosity of her heart.”
Before the venue reopens in 2023, photos will first be hung at as-yet-unannounced locations in Berkshire, St Andrews and Anglesey – places said to hold special meaning for the Duchess.
The Duchess became famous for Prince William while at the University of St Andrews, and married him in 2011 in the vicinity of Westminster Abbey.
The Duchess herself is a keen photographer
Since her marriage to the Duke, she has had three children – George, Charlotte and Louis – and has dedicated a large part of her public life to supporting children’s development in the early years.
Now, the historic Christmas will mark the start of an important few years for the future queen, who will be at her husband’s side as royal events intensify as lockdown eases, and watch her children grow up.
The Duchess has also emerged as a passionate photographer, often posing behind the camera rather than in front of it.
In the past, I used the couple’s Instagram account to document their family life and causes closest to them.
Snaps of Prince William in the Hindu Kush, as well as pictures of her children are among the images the Duchess often shares.
