Marcus Rashford said he has “endless respect” for Manchester United interim manager Ralph Rangnick and his coaching staff.
In a week of reports of unrest at the Manchester United camp, Sky Sports News has been told there are groups in the dressing room and players struggling to adapt to Rangnick’s tactics.
But Rashford, who has scored just three goals this season, responded to talk of turmoil after the German suffered his first defeat since taking charge of United in the 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton on Monday.
“We have all been disappointed by recent performances and disappointed by news coverage questioning our commitment not only to the coach and coaching staff but to the club,” Rashford wrote in a post on Twitter.
“I have endless respect for both of them and am looking forward to improving under Manchester United.
“I’m not sulky, I’m not happy. Am I disappointed in some of the shows I’ve been on lately? Of course I am — I’m my biggest critic.
“It was a difficult start but I am determined to prove my worth. My dedication and desire to be here should not be in question. I love this club.”
Maguire: It can’t go on like this
United captain Harry Maguire admitted he and his co-stars deserved the criticism that has been coming their way lately, urging the team to respond to Wolverhampton’s defeat by beating Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Monday.
“Obviously I’ve seen a lot of criticism and a lot of it is completely justified, but for me, with this team, it shouldn’t need criticism to motivate players,” Maguire said in an interview posted on the club’s website.
Roy Hodgson says it can’t be easy for Ralph Rangnick to deal with ‘big vanity’ at Manchester United, and it may be ‘impossible’ to please everyone.
“If players of this quality are not motivated to play for this club when they wear the shirt, then something is wrong.
“From what the fans and former players have said, we get it. A lot of it is justified and we all have a lot of responsibility, I as a captain is just as much as everyone else, if not more. We have to start playing well and winning.”
“This team finished second last year and we have a better and bigger team this year, so we have to show the right attitude.
“We have great players on the team, leaders. I’m tired of repeating myself but it can’t go on like this – we need to go on a proper run, starting on Monday.”
Rangnick’s response: “At least they’re trying.”
Rangnick thinks Manchester United players are trying to adapt to his style
Rangnick responded to the reports in his press conference on Friday, saying the team is “at least trying” to take his ideas on board as he confirmed there were unhappy players in the squad.
Asked if the players listen to him and buy his ideas, he said, “They’re at least trying, and I’m sure they’re listening.”

Facing questions about the unhappiness of a number of the squad, Rangnick said this is an imperative with a team the size of United.
“Well, I mean, that’s not just an issue with a club like Manchester United,” he said ahead of Monday’s FA Cup third round match against Aston Villa.
“If you have that many players and 10 players can play off the field and three of them are substituted, then of course you have a large number of players – in our case 12, 13, 14 players who are not playing, or not playing on the team.
“So these players are not happy with this situation. It is clear, it is clear.
“I tend to explain to the players every two or three weeks why they don’t play but obviously I can’t do that in every game and that’s a problem in our team as well as in other clubs.”
Crowds at Manchester United as players doubt Rangnick’s suitability
David James believes Ralph Rangnick is struggling to get his message across to the Manchester United players as they continue to deliver sub-par performances.
Some Manchester United players are struggling to adapt to the tactics of interim manager Ralph Rangnick and question whether he is the right man to be in charge at Old Trafford.
There are groups inside United’s dressing room, a source told Sky Sports News, adding that some players are finding it difficult to play in Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 plan.
Another source told Sky Sports News: “They have players in Manchester United who are ready to play, but they don’t have the coach to get the best out of those players.”
The same source also confirmed that Rangnick’s plans were disrupted in December, when the club was forced to close the Carrington training ground after the outbreak of the Covid virus, and this had an impact on performance.
