Senad O’Connor has condemned the Irish state after the death of her 17-year-old son, Shane.

The singer announced the news of her teenage son’s death on Twitter in the early hours of January 8, writing: “My beautiful son Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the light of my life, decided to end his worldly struggle today and is now with God.

“May he rest in peace and no one may follow his lead. My child. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

Shane’s disappearance was reported two days before his death. O’Connor had previously had Shane a “suicide monitor” at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin.

In a new series of tweets on the evening of January 8, O’Connor sharply criticized the Irish health service HSE, the children and family agency Tusla and the Irish state in general.
