Alec Baldwin has said any indication that he did not comply with his phone search warrant is a “lie” – as police continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of Rust.
As the Hollywood actor, who was holding the gun before it exploded, said the best way to honor the death of Helena Hutchins was to “discover the truth” of what happened.
Baldwin said he did not know the gun contained a live round and that investigators should know who put it in the gun.
Authorities in the United States issued a warrant in December for the confiscation and search of the actor’s mobile phone as part of the investigation.
It is believed that there may be phone clues related to filming in the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie that was filmed in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in October of last year.
Baldwin, 63, discussed the search warrant in a video he shared on Instagram, where he first spoke of his delight at being reunited with an emotional package from a Splenda local given to him by a fan.

Then he says, “Any suggestion that I am not complying with requests, orders, demands, or search warrants about my phone is nonsense, that’s a lie.
“This is a process where one country asks for another country. A person from another country can’t come to you and say, ‘Give me your phone, give me this, give me that.’ They can’t do that. They have to go through the state you live in.
“It’s a process that takes time and they have to figure out exactly what they want.
“They can’t go through your phone and take your pictures or your love letters to your wife or what you have, I don’t really know.
“But of course we’re going to stick 1,000% with all of that, we’re totally fine with that.”

In his video post, the actor continued, “The best way, the only way, we can honor the death of Halina Hutchins is to find out the truth.
“This is what I am working towards, and insisting on, asking the organizations involved in this investigation to do everything they can to find out what really happened. That’s all that matters.

“Once we go through this process, we will comply by all means.
“But I don’t have any worries about that, it’s all going to work out on its own.”

The Santa Magistrates’ Court issued a warrant, requested by the sheriff’s department, for the phone to be confiscated and searched.
The court documents said: “The Dean believes that there may be evidence on the phone, due to individuals using cell phones during and/or after the commission of the crime(s).
“Such information, if any, may be material and relevant to this investigation.
“Affiant was also informed that there were numerous emails and texts sent and received regarding the production of the Rust movie during interviews.”
Director Joel Sousa, 48, was also injured in the shooting, sparking a debate about gun safety on film sets.
