Dhanbad: A small earthquake of magnitude 3.8 shook Coal City at about 1.32am, with the epicenter in Palipur. No property damage or injury incidents have been reported.

Mohit Agarwal, seismograph coordinator at the International Institute of Technology (ISM), Dhanbad, confirmed the news of the earthquake.

The inhabitants of Dunbad woke up to the impact of the earthquake, finding objects scattered on the ground.

In Moore Bank, the city’s commercial hub, residents of multi-storey apartments walked out of their homes, shared their experiences with each other, and returned home only after they felt no aftershocks.

Ravi Gore, a resident of Moore Bank, said, “I woke up around 1.32 am and saw things shaking and many articles falling to the floor. My neighbors felt the same way too.”

“I also woke up last night feeling my bed shaking,” said Brajesh Kumar, a teacher at a private school in Jhariya.

COVID effect: Dhanbad food sellers report drop in sales, hunt for deliveries

DUNBAD: More than 4,000 neighborhood street vendors who deal in fast food have been hit hard by the state government’s latest Covid guidelines, which require them to close stores by 8pm. They are seeking permission from the authorities to deliver food parcels to buyers.

They even questioned the logic behind restaurants operating after 8pm when they have to close stores.

Speaking to The Telegraph Online, Jittu Sao, a street vendor who sells cola parties near the Big Bazar, said, “We suffered huge losses during the recent lockdown. We lost our capital. We are not in a position to face another financial shock.”

“This rule has made us lose about 80-90% of our customers. Reducing income will make it harder to pay my rent,” Sao said.

“If closing after 8pm is necessary, the government should allow us to deliver packages after 8pm,” he said.

“We will be asking the government through the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) to allow street vendors to deliver packages,” said Sneham Sinha, regional coordinator of the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI).

A man beaten to death in Pocaro

Dhanbad: Within a week of the double murder that rocked the Begolia district at Chas Mufsel Police Station in Bokaro, a man was beaten to death last night in the same area. His body was recovered today from the courtyard of a local temple.

The sources stated that the deceased, a truck driver named Jay Deo Pandey, had a verbal quarrel with his friends Bento Gurai and Govind Bauri inside the temple precincts.

The police team led by Sujit Kumar, Department Inspector for the District of Chas Mavsil Police Station, arrived at the site after being informed by his family members, after which his body was sent for autopsy at Chas Sadar Hospital. They even collected some forensic evidence from the site.

The police arrested the duo for questioning, based on the complaint submitted by the family of the deceased.

Speaking to the media, a local resident said: “We saw the body lying in a pool of blood but the face of the deceased was disfigured. I could not correctly identify him from his face, but I made some assumptions based on the shoe.”

“I immediately rushed to Pandey’s house and inquired about him. When I was told he had not returned, I took them to the temple where they recognized him,” said the man, who asked not to be identified.

“We have recorded the statement of family members and we have his friends Bento Gurai and Govind Devar,” said Sujit Kumar, Shas Circle Inspector.

4 dead, 10 injured after truck collides with two vehicles

Four hikers were killed and 10 others injured, six of them seriously, in Pokaro district, Jharkhand, after a speeding truck collided with two rickshaws in Lukaya village under Betarwar police station in Pokaro. The rickshaws carrying people who were going for a walk in the Parasnath hills in Giridih collided with a truck as the passengers were disembarking.

Four people were killed instantly: Ravi Kumar, Haider Ali, Subhan Ansari and Ikram Ansari.
