A member of Parliament broke down in tears on Tuesday over the death of his mother-in-law while a minister was questioned over reports of a garden party in Downing Street.
Jim Shannon, DUP’s Representative for Strangford, was asking Michael Ellis, director of Paymaster, to ensure “full and complete disclosure” about the alleged events on May 20, 2020.
“In Northern Ireland, we reached 3,000 deaths from Covid just last week,” Shannon told the House of Commons. “Three thousand people followed the rules and [for whom] We mourn today, including my mother-in-law who died alone.”
Mr Shannon began to cry and apologized to Sir Lindsey Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, as he demanded clarification whether those invited to the “bring your own liquor” event acted “within the regulations”.
