Britain will be one of the first countries in the world to emerge from the pandemic, according to a leading public health expert.
Professor David Heyman of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine said Britain’s very high levels of immunity appeared to be “keeping the virus at bay” as he predicted the coronavirus would soon stabilize to normal patterns of spread observed with other infections.
Hospital admissions have stopped rising in most of England. The North East and Yorkshire are the only part of England where admissions are still visibly rising, with London in decline and the rest of the country broadly or beginning to decline, increasing confidence in overcoming the Omicron wave.
