Tottenham are keen to sign Jesse Lingard and have contacted his representatives about a summer move.
Lingard is currently a non-supporter at Manchester United and his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, when he could join Tottenham on a free transfer.
Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the 29-year-old he would play regularly for the team this season, but he only started once under the Norwegian before he was sacked in November.
Lingard’s fortunes have not improved under Ralf Rangnick, who has also started the midfielder only once since replacing Solskjaer.
Lingard’s lack of playing time contributed to his absence from the England squad for their last game in November, after which he expressed his desire to play football regularly ahead of this winter’s World Cup.
Lingard’s struggles in this campaign stand in stark contrast to the second half of the 2020/21 season, when he scored nine goals in 16 games during an impressive loan spell at West Ham.

Spurs’ interest comes after Antonio Conte – who replaced Nuno Espirito Santo as manager in November – spoke of his desire to improve the squad he inherited.
The former Chelsea boss made it clear that he believed Tottenham were falling behind their rivals, and said after their defeat to his former club last week that they needed to “rebuild”.
Conte is keen to sign a right-back and a striker this month. Tottenham have a keen interest in Adama Traore, with reports suggesting he is being set aside for the role of right-back.
A number of players could also leave Tottenham during the January period. Ajax have made a £15m bid for Steven Bergwijn, but they are still in talks with Tottenham over a deal for the striker.
Tottenham also held talks over the exit of Tanguy Ndombele, who was mocked by his supporters during their FA Cup win over Morecambe at the weekend. Italian and Spanish clubs are interested in the midfielder.
Tanguy Ndombele’s future at Tottenham is in doubt after the midfielder was booed by Tottenham fans in Sunday’s FA Cup win over Morecambe.
Dele Alli and Matt Doherty could also leave north London, with Spurs open for offers on the pair.
Conte: I had a good transfer meeting with Levi, Paratici
Antonio Conte says he has had fruitful talks with Chairman Daniel Levy and Managing Director of Football Fabio Barracci about the players he wants to sign for Tottenham.
Conte has made an assessment of his team’s capabilities and says hiring decisions now rest in the hands of others at the club.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final, live on Sky Sports, Conte said: “Above all we talked about the situation. It was a good meeting because the owner and (Fabio) Paratici, together they started this season.
“I came in the middle. Of course, they know the situation better than I do. It was a good meeting to tell them my thoughts after my two months at Spurs.
“What do I want? I have spoken with the club and I have my thoughts on the situation and I think the most important thing is that the club must decide the best way to go.
Antonio Conte says there are many problems to be resolved at Spurs and his job is to make sure he gets the best from his players amid persistent transfer rumours.
“I have no expectations. I am a coach and I know that we have to solve many problems. For me, the best possible way is to get the most out of the players and work with the team.
“This is the only way I can improve the situation and the team. The club knows very well our situation and has to make the best decision.
“I do not know [about other clubs’ transfer plans for January]. I told the club my vision and what I found here. Next, the club has to decide the best course of action that the club should take. I am a coach and I teach football and I try to improve the level of the players and the level of this team.
Then we will see the club’s decision if there is a possibility [to improve] or not. For me, it is important to be honest with the club about my vision, my expectations, what I found and how we can improve.”
