It looks like Novak Djokovic’s visa is set to be revoked again tomorrow with the appointment of Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to give the Serbian a boot. Australian Saturday Paper journalist Paul Bonjorno claims that the decision has already been made and World No. 1 will be relayed.
He tweeted, “I hear @AlexHawkeMP Joker is out tomorrow.”
Djokovic’s visa was initially revoked on arrival after hours of questioning by Border Force officials.
A judge overturned the ruling in court on Monday after Djokovic spent five days confined to an immigration hotel.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner immediately hit the training grounds at Melbourne Arena after authorities released him.
However, there were a number of inconsistencies with his Covid tests and Hawke launched an investigation to take a deep dive into the situation.
An announcement is expected on Thursday, but Bonjorno, who has deep connections to Australian politics, believes Djokovic’s fate has been decided.
Djokovic posted a statement on Instagram to try to clear up any confusion regarding his visa application.
He wrote: “In connection with my travel acknowledgment, this was submitted by my support team on my behalf as I told immigration officials on my arrival – and my agent sincerely apologizes for the administrative error in ticking the incorrect box about my previous travel by Coming to Australia .
“This was a human error and certainly not intentional. We live in difficult times in a global pandemic and sometimes these mistakes can happen.
Explaining the situation, the 20-time Grand Slam winner said: “I felt compelled to go ahead and do the L’Equipe interview because I didn’t want to let the journalist down.
“As I went home after the interview to isolate for the required duration, on reflection, this was a miscalculation and I agree that I should have rescheduled this commitment.”
