The Tasmanian police also issued a statement confirming that they had been called to the Al-Farq Hotel after filing a complaint about “drunk people”.

“Tasmanian police attended the Crowne Plaza Hobart on Monday morning following reports of people intoxicated in an event area,” the statement read. “The guests were spoken to by the police, shortly after 6 am, and left the area when asked. The police will not take any further action.”

Linda Collis, general manager of Crowne Plaza Hobart, told the Sydney Morning Herald and Age: “As far as I know, there have been some complaints about noise from outside.

“We’re in the middle of town and there’s noise and other things. We get all sorts of random things and the police will show up. There was nothing untoward. No one was taken out of the hotel. It’s not uncommon for people to complain about the noise.”

“Everything was sailing smoothly, and we were glad Hobart to have cricket here and teams here.”

With two days left to wait for the England players to return home, most of the squad have remained in Hobart until their scheduled flight on Wednesday.

The restricted environment in which this tour unfolded, which prevented both groups of players from visiting public places for most of the series, meant that alcohol was more readily available in the teams’ hotels.

However, with no more immediate matches to protect, members of the England and Australia teams were seen partying around Hobart all day on Monday and deep into the night.

Another party involving England players at the team hotel continued until the early hours of Tuesday morning, the day after the leaked footage was filmed.
