Regina King has confirmed the death of her son, Ian Alexander Jr., just days after his 26th birthday.

The Harder They Fall actress, 51, shared a heartbreaking tribute in a statement with People Magazine.

“Our family has been devastated on the deepest level by the loss of Ian,” she wrote.

He is such a bright light who cares deeply about the happiness of others.

Our family demands respectful respect during this special time. thank you.’

The cause of his death was not mentioned.

Regina Ian Jr. shares her ex-husband, legendary record producer Ian Alexander Sr., as the former couple welcomed their only child together in 1996.

He followed in his father’s footsteps and got into the music industry, revealing his talents as a successful DJ.

The Oscar winner previously revealed how close she was to her son, as the couple got identical tattoos that read “unconditional love.”

In a recent interview, she described their bond as the most “satisfying” thing.

“You don’t know what unconditional love is,” she said. You might say you do, but if you don’t have a baby, you don’t know what it is.

Ian often accompanied Regina to performances and events, and they were proudly standing together on the red carpet.

The late star also posted a heartfelt message to celebrate his mother’s 50th birthday last year, detailing his “pride”.

To be able to watch you take this life by the neck and make it yours is something I will be forever grateful for.

‘But to be like my mother is the greatest gift I can ask for. Being all that you are while always having the time to be there, love and support me unconditionally is really great.

“The whole Marvel world is not on you, the real superhero! I love you mom! This day and every day YO DAY!! [sic]”.
