Liverpool play Crystal Palace for the second time this season and it is a reminder of an earlier era in the Premier League. The palace, of course, is run by Premier League legend Patrick Vieira. Liverpool’s current deputy captain James Milner was Vieira’s team-mate at Manchester City, and spoke ahead of Sunday’s clash with the great Arsenal.
“Obviously I was fortunate to play with Patrick at Manchester City, I know what a special player he was.” Milner said. “But his mentality, talking to him after the match at home and knowing his ideas and winning mentality, he’s trying to bring that into the club.”
Vieira was famous for being one of the best midfielders of his era in the Premier League. He led Arsenal to their invincible season.
“You look at the season they’ve had so far – and some of the results they’ve had where they lost points late in the game and were a bit unlucky – I think he’s doing a great job there and [will] Keep doing this. Hope it’s not too good for the weekend.
“It is important that we finish the match strong and then have a break after that, so it is always important that you finish a series of matches before the break with a good score.
“So it’s important that we can do that, but it’s going to be a tough match, and like I said, they have some good players too and the players are playing well and full of confidence.”
If Milner’s talk about playing with Vieira doesn’t make you feel the death of life, I’m not sure what will.
