The future Call of Duty PlayStation tackled the takeover after Activision

[ad_1]

Microsoft’s nearly $70 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard this week has completely shaken the gaming industry, and it’s called countless questions we may not see answers to for years to come.

One of the biggest things Microsoft has responded to is whether Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation consoles or become an Xbox exclusive (as far as consoles, of course it will continue to release on PC).

Last year, the first and third best-selling PlayStation games were Vanguard and Black Ops: Cold War, respectively, so it comes down to whether Microsoft thinks the players it’s luring to Xbox and/or Game Pass are worth giving up on PlayStation for, perhaps Infuriate the fans.

In a statement on Twitter, Head of Xbox and Microsoft Games, Phil Spencer, said: “I had good calls this week with the leaders at Sony. You confirmed our intention to honor all existing agreements upon the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship.”

As with these big corporate data, the wording here is quite vague. Our “confirmed intent” may not necessarily mean they will, while we don’t know how long these existing agreements will last in the list.

The statement may mean that all new CoD entries in the future will come to PlayStation, but that could mean PS players will miss out on new games but still see that the free-to-play, microtransactions Call of Duty: Warzone will continue to be supported.

Of course, if new CoD games keep coming to PlayStation, Microsoft might bargain for something in return — Sony games on Xbox, and Game Pass on PlayStation, for example. It really looks like anything can happen at this point, and we may not find out until this Activision purchase is completed in 2023.

There is also the question of whether the work environment at Activision Blizzard will improve, after allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct going back at least a decade.
