Partygate investigation “may have detected at least one pool” in Downing Street apartment

An investigation into the party allegations in Downing Street may have revealed details of at least one gathering at the prime minister’s apartment, according to reports.

Sue Gray, the chief civil servant conducting the investigation, reportedly received evidence of visits that included close friends of Carrie Johnson during the lockdown.

Her investigation is expected to be revealed this week.

There are allegations that a number of parties were held at No. 10 while Covid restrictions were in place, including two on the evening before Prince Philip’s funeral.

However, the investigation has now been expanded to look into the socialization in the prime minister’s Downing Street apartment, the Sunday Times reported.

Gray found evidence that Johnson welcomed two friends – both civil servants but not working at No. 10 at the time – into her home on several occasions during the lockdown, according to the newspaper.

The visits were reportedly explained as being related to work.

Meanwhile, the Observer similarly reported that Ms Gray may have discovered details of another gathering at No. 10, with rumors, she claimed, circulating in the government, which may have involved the prime minister’s apartment and his wife’s friends.

The newspaper also reported that Ms Gray, who is investigating at least nine gatherings in Downing Street, has been given access to security data showing staff movements in and out of the building – including information from swipe cards.

On Saturday, the Labor Party called on the prime minister to ensure “the full party report is published”. This came after reports suggested that some evidence – such as communications – could be withheld.

The Independent has reached out to Number 10 for comment.
