Janet Street-Porter launches fresh attack on Adele over apology for staying in Vegas for ‘Snivelling’

A panelist for The Loose Women described the Easy On Me star as a “self-obsessed” and said Adele’s apology to fans after her shows were canceled was “abhorrent”, accusing her of treating them “appallingly”.

In a touching video posted on Friday, Adele tearfully announced that her show at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace was “not ready,” just 24 hours before she was due to take to the stage for the first time.

Writing in her MailOnline column, Janet – who previously played Adele – stunned her, writing: “I don’t know which was more surprising; Adele’s feeble attempts to apologize to the camera with a show of perfect nails, addressing ordinary people as if we were queuing up for a bag of Fish and Chips (its actual words “my show isn’t ready”) – or bare-cheek – made that decision just two days before kick-off.

“This carefully managed attempt at sympathy does not seem believable. Anyone would think she was studying footage of non-apologizing master Boris Johnson,” she wrote.

“She’s been on the journey from a wealthy woman to an incredibly wealthy and self-obsessed world star. That doesn’t give you the right to treat fans so appallingly, in the hope that a scathing apology will soften the blow.”

Janet added, “I got all my remaining strength from wet wipes.”

The former tabloid editor called Adele “too shallow” in the run-up to the release of her latest album 30, accusing the star of “fake misery”, “tears pouring out every hour” and talking about her personal life as a “transformation producer”.

The Weekends With Adele series was announced last November, and the singer is scheduled to perform two shows each weekend through April.

Tickets ranged from $85 (£60) to $685 (£500), and Adele was reportedly set to make more than £500,000 per performance.

The residency would have been the first time Adele had performed live in five years.

The 33-year-old singer said she was “up for 30 hours” trying to salvage the production, but simply “ran out of time”.

Adele also apologized to the fans who had already arrived in Las Vegas for the opening weekend.

“I’m sorry, it’s the last minute. I am so upset and really embarrassed and so sorry to everyone who has traveled again.”

Accommodation is scheduled to be rescheduled, with dates announced in due course.
