A murder investigation has begun after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Saturday night.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers attended reports of a teenager who had been stabbed in Stretford, Trafford, around 7pm. Paramedics treated the boy at the scene before he was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“Tonight, this tragic news has left a broken family and our thoughts go to them at this most shocking and upsetting time,” Sobt John Harris said in a statement.
GMP said a murder investigation had been opened, but no arrests had been made. A large cordon was imposed at the scene and additional officers were patrolling the area.
“There will be specially trained officers to support loved ones, and additional patrols will remain in the area of this deadly attack so the local community can talk to us about any concerns or information they may have,” Harris said.
“These are the early stages of what is now a murder investigation, and a team of investigators will … pursue a number of different lines of investigation. We have to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”
