Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale admitted that they played directly into Burnley’s hands during their frustrating 0-0 draw with Burnley.

In their first Premier League game since January 1, Arsenal had been hoping to respond to Manchester United’s dramatic win that saw them move into the top four on Saturday.

He told BBC Match of the Day: “I’ll take credit for Burnley, we know what it’s about, it’s frustrating on our behalf because we’ve been putting the balls in the box and this is Burnley’s meat and drink.

“We didn’t create that quality we needed. We are drained at the moment and the players have played a lot of minutes, I don’t want to make any excuses. We have time to regroup now.”

Meanwhile, Arteta said his side looked “tall” after Thursday’s defeat to Liverpool, and failed to show any kind of rhythm in another void.

The Spaniard explained: “We started slow, looked tall and didn’t have enough rhythm or intention to attack the way we wanted. We started playing better, more rhythmic and threatening and we came out in the second half completely differently.”

“We tried every different way but we lacked quality in the last third. In the end, when we have really low mass, we need spark and creativity to win football matches and today we didn’t.

“That’s what they do, they want to play a slow game, it’s their game and you have to respect that.”

Arsenal now have a long break before their next game, when they face their top six teammates Wolverhampton at Molineux.

The first team is now preparing to fly to Dubai for a warm-weather training camp to rest their bodies at the start of the next round next month.
