BEIJING (Reuters) – The schedule for the second phase of the COP15 global biodiversity talks in the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming in April is “likely to be affected” by the new COVID-19 risks, Ministry of Environment spokesman Liu Yubin said. Monday.

The second phase was supposed to see the completion of the post-2020 global new deal on biodiversity protection, following the first round of talks in Kunming last October.

A follow-up meeting scheduled for January in Geneva has already been canceled as a result of a new wave of coronavirus infections caused by variant Omicron.
