His nephew who took his uncle’s body to the post office to collect his pension ‘didn’t know he died’

A man who took his uncle’s body to the post office to collect his pension claimed that he “didn’t know he died” at the time.

Declan Hogney insists he wasn’t trying to rob his deceased relative Pedar Doyle, 66, after he and another man dragged him and another man about five minutes from his home to collect his pension from the Post Office branch on Jan. 21.

The 40-year-old has now claimed to be the “talk of the town” and has been described as a “murderer” in the community of Carlow, Ireland, since the story emerged, according to The Mirror.

However, he insisted he was “not Egget” and believed that he was accused of dragging his deceased uncle into a post office to steal his pension due to having previously stolen it from his aunt.

He said: Why do I want to steal my uncle? I’m 40, yeah, I’m not a kid, I’m not a young guy.

“I’m not obsessed with getting into Hoseys with a dead man and collecting his coins. Am I rude? Am I a cuckoo? I’m not.”

Declan, who admits he had a drug problem and who spent two years in prison, says he is now accused of bringing in his deceased uncle for his pension – because of his past.

He told us, “That’s why they say it, and that’s why it all comes out now – because I’ve done it before.

“A bank card came through my aunt’s door, got the pin code and came down because of fraud and that’s why it all came out.

“People know about it in the city you do. But that was 15 years ago. I’ve been off for three years and I’m fine.”

Declan, who suffers from a black eye and facial wounds after allegedly being attacked in the aftermath of the incident last Friday, revealed that he now believes his uncle died before he reached the post office.

Declan says he believes Bedard may have died by the time he and another man took him and another man under the bridge on Pollerton Road, less than a two-minute walk from his home—but the pair kept bringing him to the post office by strapping a gun with him and dragging him there.

When the couple supported Mr. Doyle at the counter, a member of the staff called the Irish Guard.

Both men, one of whom was said to know Doyle “well,” have since made full statements to police investigating the incident from Friday, Daily Record reports.

Officers believe he may have died about three hours before his impromptu trip to Hosey’s newsagents and Carlow’s post office with the men, despite claims he is alive.

Father John Dunphy, the pastor who delivered the last rites to Mount Doyle, said he received a call from police that his remains were left at the store in “appalling conditions.”
