Downing Street parties: Boris Johnson has no Sue Gray report yet, says Liz Truss – LIVE | Policy

good morning. The much-anticipated report from civil servant Sue Gray to Party Gate – who has joined a small, select group of official Whitehall reports in history and who are seen as having the potential to end the prime minister’s career – may be published later today. Or he may not come until tomorrow. As I write, no one really knows, due to the massive frustration of the Westminster Political Media Foundation, and many others. Sorry about that.

But we do know that the report has not yet been formally delivered to Downing Street, because Liz Truss, the Secretary of State, said so in her morning interview. When asked if No. 10 has not yet received it, she told Sky News within the past hour:

This is correct. And of course, it’s an independent report, it’s a matter of Sue Gray when she sends this report, when she’s done with her work.

Truss also said that “security issues” may prevent parts of the report from being published.

We have made it very clear that we will publish the findings of the report. We don’t know the content of the report, so there may be, for example, security issues that mean publishing parts of it is problematic. But we will certainly publish the results of the report.

Boris Johnson has indicated that he will publish the report very soon after receiving it, and will make a statement on it to the House of Commons. The fact that it is still on his desk means that such a statement is unlikely to happen immediately after PMQ, although it will likely return to Parliament at a later time. Or he could wait until tomorrow.

Once the report has been issued, and especially if it is anything as damned as some commentators have suggested, the Conservative MPs who abstained from calling for a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister could submit the necessary letters to the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. There is a very real chance that that vote will be held before the end of the week.

Today I will focus almost exclusively on this story.
