Alan Carr’s estranged husband, Paul Drayton, was imprisoned today for 14 weeks.
His sentence was pronounced during his appearance in Brighton and Hove Magistrates’ Court today.
Drayton cried when he admitted to driving under the influence, and was also banned from driving for three years.
District Judge Amanda Kelly said he “died with death” when he was behind the wheel.
She continued, “I received a lot of information about you and read your very powerful letter. I heard about your battle with alcoholism, the breakdown of your marriage, and the impact of the lockdown on you.”
“The sad truth is that almost everyone walks into this room with a life that has been damaged in some way.
“You bet your life and the lives of others.
“You could easily have killed a child, partner, family, or friend.”

Prosecutor Susan Soros said officers tracked him down and saw his car “swerving from side to side”.
Suspecting he had exceeded his alcohol limit, they signaled Drayton to stop and he complied.
“The defendant returned to the police car,” Ms Soros said.
On October 9, 2021, Sussex police saw Paul, 50, swerve his car from side to side while driving at about 3pm on October 9 in Broadbridge Heath, Horsham – three miles from the home he shared with comedian Alan.
When stopped by the police, Paul reversed his Mitsubishi 4×4 into the police car.
During his court appearance in November, he was banned from driving and told he could be imprisoned for 12 weeks after he admitted driving with 153 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath at Broadbridge Heath in Horsham.
Paul – who was suffering from alcoholism – was more than four times the legal limit of 35 mg per 100 ml of breath.
Drayton pleaded not guilty to drunk driving at a previous hearing before changing his payment.
District Judge Amanda Kelly told Paul at the time: “The starting point for this crime was a 12-week prison sentence and that was for someone who was less alcoholic and didn’t hit a police car.
“I will ask for a report before sentencing, but the high probability is that you will go to prison.
“I put the public at risk by driving in that situation.
“It is an absolute miracle that you are here today and did not kill or maim anyone else in the crowd.
“You are now ineligible to drive as of today.

“Be honest and open with surveillance as much as possible, but custody is likely.”
Melanie Wootton of the Public Prosecution Service told the court: “It was just before 3pm on October 9 when the police received a call that there was a potential drinking driver near the cooperative.
“The police managed to locate the silver Mitsubishi.
“They noticed she was veering from side to side as they followed her.
The Mitsubishi then reverses into the police car.
“The driver is clearly intoxicated.
“He was unsteady on his feet and lacked coordination and was arrested after that.
“He was taken to the holding ward, where he took 153 breaths.

“This reading is outside the sentencing guidelines, they could be as many as 150.
“This was not an early admission of guilt, so Crown is claiming £150.”
On Friday, Alan and Paul announced that they had ended their marriage.
They have been married for three years, but have been a couple for 13 years and said they made the decision “jointly and amicably.”
On Friday, their spokesperson said in a statement to the Palestinian Authority News Agency: “After 13 years as a married couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce their separation.
“They jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways.
“We ask that their privacy be respected at this sensitive time.”
