An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck 136.1 miles west-northwest of the city of Bangai in Tonga on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The US Geological Survey said the quake was at a depth of 14.5 km.

The earthquake comes on the heels of the massive volcanic eruption in the same Pacific region on January 15. Tonga officials issued a tsunami warning following the eruption that scientists described as “the highest eruption since Krakatoa in 1883”.

Tonga is still recovering from the volcanic effects. Emergency services brought clean water to the island last week.
