A man has been jailed for eight weeks after admitting he intended to cause distress to Professor Sir Chris Whitty when he approached him in June last year.
Jonathan Chew, 24, was one of two men who filmed themselves with England’s chief medical officer as he walked through St James’s Park in Westminster on June 27.
Prosecutor Eastin Morgan said Chew began filming Sir Chris on his phone while the other man – Lewis Hughes, 24 – grabbed him with a fist.

Westminster Magistrates Court watched the footage, which showed the couple taunting as Sir Chris tried to break free.
On Thursday, Chiu, of Chelmsford in Essex, pleaded guilty to a charge of intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
He also admitted blocking Stephen Osden’s computer.
The court heard that Chew had given the police officer’s old name and address to the police officer but was discovered after commenting on the incident in The Sun.
During an earlier hearing, Rabah Kharbin, an advocate, said Chiu suffers from several conditions, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism, which make it difficult for him to follow through on proceedings.

Mr. Kherbin said Chew “really regrets causing this level of discomfort to someone else”.
The lawyer added that Chiu was also “happy and smiling” in the video, explaining that he was “really excited” and had no intention of humiliating Sir Chris.
Chiu had at least 26 previous convictions including public order crimes, and was licensed after his release in July 2020.
In addition to his eight-week prison sentence, he was ordered to pay £1,058 in costs and reparations.

Meanwhile, Hughes, a former real estate agent who was described by a judge as “Alepish,” was given a suspended prison sentence last July after pleading guilty to a charge of battery.
Judge Goldspring said Hughes had left Sir Chris “humiliated”.
Sir Chris was examined by paramedics at the time of the accident and was unharmed.
